No one should be denied the right to act politically. Therefore, the Swedish Pirate Party stepped in and became The Pirate Bay's ISP. But we want to go even further. The Swedish Constitution is often ignored, but it contains an interesting detail. It says that MPs can not be sued or prosecuted for something that is done as part of their political mandate.
In practice, this implies total immunity for any political action taken within this working environment. Some of the Pirate Party's prospective MPs intend to use this to host the entire Pirate Bay from inside the parliament, if today's operators of the site accept this and if we win a place in parliament in the Swedish elections on September 19.
The Pirate Bay is actually both legitimate and legal already today, so technically no such immunity should be needed, but it is a practical way to get a short respite from the copyright industry's legal barrage.
The Pirate Bay would then sail with immunity until copyright laws have been reduced and the site's legal status is clarified.
There is also an important symbolic value in running the site from inside the parliamentary building.
The Pirate Party does this to protect several important values: Information security, fundamental freedom of expression, the future of Sweden as an industrial nation, and Sweden's reputation as leading the way into the future. The Pirate Party consists of people who act on their resources where other politicians only appoint investigations and try to avoid responsibility.
Sweden has long been at the forefront as an IT nation. But we have fallen in the rankings, largely because today's politicians do not see the connection between file-sharing culture and future industry skills. We have now dropped from place three to place eight in average household bandwidth.
There are no reasons for us to accept this development. There are no technical reasons for this, just political. This is why we never can accept the copyright industry's systematical legal harassment of anyone who tries to create the next-generation industries. Their approach is criminal on the international arena and it ought to be criminal in Sweden as well: professional saboteurs are criminals, whomever foots the bill.
In this context, The Pirate Bay is a global icon for freedom of speech, next generation of jobs, and future industries. Naturally, the previous generation of industries feel threatened by this icon. Certainly, it is only one web site among thousands, but it is an important symbol. This symbolic value is precisely why we want to make it a national industrial interest by putting the servers inside the Swedish Parliament.
American and European entrepreneurs follow the development of the Swedish pirate movement with great interest. Quite frequently you see people on the net discussing moving to Sweden. Not because of the present political situation, but because of the potential that exists here. The talents of such professionals would be beneficial to our country, if we could take advantage of the potential that they see.
Today's politicians show a complete lack of leadership in this area. They simply do not understand that the Internet is as important as electricity and running water, and that its unfettered freedom will create the jobs for the next generation.
The Pirate Party is the only political party that takes responsibility for our fundamental civil rights, our country's information security, and the talent of the next generation. We demonstrate that through action. Every day.

wonderful initiative. It is going to be interesting to see how this evolves, as it is about time we reach a liberal sharing of ideas. I'm not even talking about entertainment copyrights, but scientific research an advances should be a thing owned by humanity, not humans. A genius scientist who develops a great thing, should be rewarded, and be set for life. however, it's ridiculous to prohibit people access to his ideas, as this makes further research and improvements impossible.

Eftersom moderaterna nu verkar tycka att det är en bra ideé att lagra allas googleresultat så var jag rätt inställd på att rösta på piratpartiet, enda tills nu.
Jag tycker det är hemskt att piratebay blev dömda till böter och fängelse för något som inte var olagligt. Jag tycker det är fel att USA använder Sverige som en marionet docka och att MPAA tydligen är den nya lagen i stan.
Men att piratpartiet skall hosta thepiratebay tycker jag är fel, ingen kommer ta piratpartiet seriöst efter denna PR stunt, precis som man inte tar Gudrun seriöst efter att hon bränt upp 100.000kr (okej, kanske inte tog henne seriöst innan heller men..).
Varför kunde inte piratpartiet istället ta på sig att se till att SVENSK LAG efterföljs, och att vi skall sluta leka docka åt USA? Och säga åt MPAA att även dessa lagar gäller dom!
Att hosta thepiratebay är bara barnsligt och att sticka folk (och även era trogna röstare) i ögonen. dom enda som tycker det är coolt är förmodligen dom sub18 åringar som endå inte får rösta.
Gör era röstare en tjänst och försök istället långsiktigt se till att lagar efterföljs istället för att fånga rubriker.
Håller med... Röstade er till eu parlamentet... dock ej politiskt, vill bara säga vad jag tycker om lagarna och implementeringen av den! Ni ska slåss för våra rättigheter till friheten på nätet. Inte blanda er in i barnsligheter.

nice idea! I am sure this will give you many votes from people who would otherwise stay home. Just make sure that EVERYONE in Sweden knows about this! How good are your chances to get more than the required 4%?
As far as I know, there are two things like immunity. One protects only parliamentary acts (in germany: only voting and speeches, basically), one protects from any kind of prosecution (even outside parliament). Which one are you planning to use? If it is the first one, are you sure hosting TPB is covered by it? If it is the latter one, I assume that the immunity is guaranteed unless 5/6ths of the Riksdagen agree on lifting it, right? How sure can you be that some other party will stand up for your immunity if you do not get enough votes for 1/6th of the seats?

...that no other party in the Swedish government stands up for civil liberties and freedoms, but I think we've had it to "easy" and takes most of those liberties "for granted" and (the majority) of people don't react when repressive laws and enacted and police are bribed and the court-system is manipulated. "But... that couldn't happen HERE... surely..."
But, on the other hand, we have the Pirate Party and it's spreading over the world apparently, so that's something to be damn proud of :)
