Grupperna i EU-parlamentet är inte partier, utan lösare koalitioner som består av Europaparlamentariker.
-- Styrelsen rekommenderade igår kväll partiets Europaparlamentariker att gå med i Gröna gruppen, som ställer sig bakom gruppen i partiets namn enligt det underlag som presenterades för styrelsen, fortsätter Rick Falkvinge.
Rekommendationen har föregåtts av diskussioner inom partiet och flera mer eller mindre intressanta bud från olika grupper.
-- Vi fick t.ex. ett mycket bra tidigt bud från vänstergruppen GUE/NGL som kan ha öppnat för budet från Greens/EFA. Det i sin tur visar på att vi är välkomna bland alla grupper på vänster/högerskalan och inte minst att vår vågmästarstrategi fungerar, säger Rick Falkvinge.
Att arbeta tillsammans i en partigrupp gynnar de europeiska politiska partierna. Partigrupperna får t.ex. vissa ekonomiska och politiska fördelar gentemot de grupplösa ledamöterna i form av ekonomiskt bidrag och mer talartid samt plats i parlamentets olika utskott.
-- Budet innebär att partiet informellt har erbjudits möjligheten att ta en plats i LIBE (utskottet för mänskliga rättigheter) eller annat relevant utskott. Piratpartiet behöver inte gå med i det gröna paneuropeiska partiet och vi erbjuds en heltidstjänst av gruppen utöver parlamentarikerns assistenter, berättar Christian Engström, Piratpartiets förste EU-parlamentariker.
Trots varningar om motsatsen har många grupper visat intresse för Piratpartiet.
-- Vi har fått intressanta bud från bland annat också liberala gruppen ALDE och vänstergruppen GUE/NGL, men det som var avgörande var att den gröna gruppen har kommit längst i sitt arbete med informationspolitiska perspektiv, säger Christian Engström.
